WordPress Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 8388608 bytes exhausted

Feb 14th, 2008 by Martyn | 0

In the last couple of weeks / month I moved to new hosting when I moved my Blog i had no problems, until I started playing in the back end. When i clicked plugins I received the following error.

Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 8388608 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 12 bytes) in /home/sites/public_html/wp-admin/includes/plugin.php on line 4

I found out that the PHP had hit its built-in limit and this was causing the problem what you need to do is increase this limit. How to do is create a php.ini file. You can do this by opening notepad and saving the file as php.ini “Do not save the file as .txt” save it as “All files” in Save As Type:

In the notepad file put this comment memory_limit=16M and save as mentioned above. Then upload the file via FTP to the root folder.

And that’s all you need to do.. If you get stuck drop me an email!
