Oscommerce How To Start - Contributions - Addons
As you might not know Oscommerce has now changed in the contribution section to oscommerce addons.
This to me has proved a little confusing as I don’t like changes….my opinion they have gone for they Web 2.0 look with Tag style menu I must agree I like this menu system if it works for the job, but have you downloaded a addon yet forgot about it and tried to find it again? It’s not a easy as it seems. I’ve found the new Oscommerce addon section difficult to use. But hey what do I know.
Oscommerce users often ask what do I need and where do I start well first of all you will need to download oscommerce from here and install it.
Below are my suggestion to what you should install before you start hacking at the code.
1.Ultimate SEO URLs

This will let you create keyword URLS example. www.yourdomain.com/keywords.html
Why? With SEO now changing google now uses the content from your page and no longer uses <meta name=”Description” content=” ” /> <meta name=”Keywords” content=”, ” /> also if your URL has a ? in it google will not index these pages and with a default install these are present!
2.Header Tags Controller

Lets you create <meta name=”Description” content=” ” /> <meta name=”Keywords” content=”, ” /> on the fly. I know I previously mentioned that google doesnt use them but many others still do..i.e. Yahoo, MSN but as a rule if your rank well in google you will rank well in yahoo and msn.
3.UltraPics - MS2 Image Addon Pack!

This will allow you to add up to 8 more images instead of the usual 1
I know some of you might disagree but from previous experience these are where I always start this then gives me the basic platform to start hacking at the code.
