First Three Basic Wordpress SEO Tips

As your pobably know many blogs on the internet talk about “10 SEO Tips For Wordpress” some of these go in to quite some depth talking about every aspect of wordpress SEO my simple first three tips should “i think” be used. I think they are an ideal place for bloggers to start.

Wordpress SEO Tip One

Once you have installed wordpress login to the admin area found at www.yourdomain.com/wp-admin looking at the dashboard go to the far right hand side and select “Options” now in the menu underneath select “Privacy” now select the button which states “I would like to block search engines, but allow normal visitors”

After this select “Update Options”

Why?

As soon as you install wordpress your blog will be visible to search engines by disallowing this it will allow you to get organised with your permalink stucture without possibly creating invalid pages later.

Wordpress SEO Tip Two

Often Ive seen permalink stucture known as friendly URLs, simple URLs, clean urls you name it . Often on a high ranking websites you will see the URL has part if not all the keywords in. Wordpress offers this function which is very simple to implement.

Once again login to the admin dashboard select the “Options” tab on the far right hand side now select the “Permalinks” tab.

As you can see above the permalink which i feel is best is http://martynb.co.uk/2007/11/26/sample-post/ this will then put the post title in the url. The structure for this is /%year%/%monthnum%/%day%/%postname%/ the most improtant part is to get /%postname%/ in your structure.

Wordpress SEO Tip Three

Install a plugin the one i use on this site is the All in One SEO Pack for wordpress this will allow you to create custom Titles, Descriptions and Keywords for your post. More on this will be coming in a later post.

This is only a few and very basic SEO tips for wordpress will cover a few more at a later date. Once you have all this setup how you wish and want, don’t forget you switch your privacy over to allow search engine to index your pages.
