Sting in the PR from Google

As most webmasters holdout for the PR update from Google this time round many have been left feeling stripped. From the forums and SEO blogs many websites had a PR drop. Whats a PR?

PageRank is a link analysis algorithm that assigns a numerical weighting to each element of a hyperlinked set of documents, such as the World Wide Web, with the purpose of “measuring” its relative importance within the set. The algorithm may be applied to any collection of entities with reciprocal quotations and references. The numerical weight that it assigns to any given element E is also called the PageRank of E and denoted by PR(E). Taken from Wikipedia

SEOmoz one of the largest SEO websites reported that out of the 32,856 which it monitors none showed a PageRank gain and 1,264 — 3.8 percent — had a drop.

Most sites that achieved a PR rank update had a PageRank of zero this increased between one and three. Sites which have lost some or all the PR value might have been affected because of selling links.
